* We have received reports that general cargo ship, SUNDRY (IMO: 9045651), was involved in a collision with chemical/products tanker MAZU XIAO (IMO: 9503940) near the 18-mile mark of the Danube-Sulina Branch canal, Romania, on 28 August 2024.

* MAZU XIAO is a 2008-built chemical/products tanker having a gross tonnage of 5,001 tonnes. The vessel was proceeding from Sulina (Romania) to Izmail (Ukraine) and is reported to be laden with approximately 6,620 metric tonnes of diesel fuel at the time of the incident.

* The collision reportedly occurred as SUNDRY experienced an engine failure, requiring the vessel to anchor in an emergency.

* It is reported that SUNDRY sustained damage to its stern and later moved to Sulina for inspection, and possibly, repairs.

* MAZU XIAO continued its voyage and is currently moored at Tulcea Anchorage, Romania for inspection.

* It is possible that General Average issues may arise as a result of this incident, there will also likely be recovery claims too.
